When I immigrated to the U.S. 25 years ago, I watched PBS programs to learn English. One of the programs was Rick Steves' travel show. For many years, my parents and I explored Europe with him every weekend from the comfort of our couch. On his shows, Rick encourages people to be travelers, not mere tourists. This philosophy resonates with me.
As a single woman who had never been to Europe, I was apprehensive about traveling by myself. I also did not have the time to meticulously plan a trip. I chose Rick Steves' Village Italy tour as my introductory excursion to Europe because of the location and the experience it provides. Italy has always intrigued me. I spent 14 days with twenty two travel companions and wonderful guides. Our main tour guide, Sarah Corfield (pictured above), went to Milan 14 years ago to teach at the American School in Milan. Needless to day, she has not left. Another important member of our tour was Ezio, our skilled and charming driver (in red, pictured above). Rick's tour was a perfect blend of scheduled activities and independent time. I am excited to share a few of my favorite memories with you.
