Ravenna (Day 3)

Ravenna is one of my top three Italian villages on this trip.  The photographs speak for themselves.  The local guide, Rosanna, gave us an illuminating tour of the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia and the Basilica di San Vitale.  The mosaics were astounding.

After the tour, we had a chance to explore the town.  I enjoyed a flat bread sandwich with Parma ham and squacquerone di Romagna, a local soft cheese (Yum!!!).  I then trekked off on my own to seek out Dante's tomb and to see more mosaics at the Battistero Neoniano.

After lunch, we headed to Montefalco.  Sarah capped off a perfect day by playing Andrea Bocelli as our bus wound its way up to the Villa Pambuffetti.  Listening to the music while looking out to the olive groves and rolling hills brought me peace and contentment.  That was the moment my love affair with Italy began.
